Adventurous Little Bears and Christmas

Sometimes little bears go on big adventures!  Lucy’s new mom had a bit of stress earlier this morning when Lucy took a nose dive from a shelf in her kitchen, and landed face first into the pancake dough she was busy making.

Who would have thought that such an innocent looking little bear, was so adventurous?  But apparently Lucy is fine; all she needed was a quick rinse under the faucet.

Happy Holidays...

This will probably be my last blog post for this year and I want to thank all my collectors, friends,  blog readers and followers for your support, love and friendship.

I wish you all a blessed Christmas and a New Year full of peace and happiness.
Take care
Delane

Santa, Lego and an itty bitty Bears

Gone are the days when Lego was the number one gift on the wish list to Santa at our house.

This itty bitty bear reminds me so much of my puppy, that I named her Lucy.  She is just under 3" and created from Sassy 'cashmere' fabric.

Lucy is currently available for adoption. E-mail me if you would love her to be yours.
Lucy has been adopted, and her new mom loves her very much.

Pocket-size Mini's

There are a few pocket-size mini bears in various stages of completion, on my table for the last couple of weeks.  Sometimes life just swallows you whole and there is no time for the enjoyable things in life... like creating mini bears.

Bears and Ears

This little one was jumping around my work table earlier today, begging me to sew on his ears.
I always put it off till the very last,  as I never get it right the first time.

His name is Peety and he will be listed on http://www.bearpile.com/artist/1725 tomorrow.

Sweet Mini Bears

Creating sweet faced mini bears is such fun.  I have a few in various stages of completion on my work table and I love seeing their cute little faces when I enter my studio in the mornings.

This is the latest of the mini family,  Dylo.  He found a cozy bed in a doll shoe.

Dylo is a tiny 3.5" and created from a soft grey viscose.

Tired Dogs and Sweet Brown Bears

I love country living and Fall is my absolute favorite time of year... I just need this time to slow down after hectic, hot and humid summer days.  The air smell sweet and I enjoy going for long walks with Jackie and Lucy.  Well… Luce only goes half way before she begs to be carried.  Recently, while cleaning out the basement of stuff that I don’t know why I kept all these years, even relocate from one continent to another with it,  I discovered my now teenage son’s  baby carrier.  It is an ideal doggie carrier for the Missy.

The result of all the fresh air!

Lucy’s sweet little face is my inspiration for all my teddy bears.  Mandy is a cute chubby 6 inch girly bear and was created from a silvery tip, caramel and chocolate brown faux fur.   This is my first 'brown bear', and I think I like the look.

Crazy Bear Mother

Sometimes I really drive myself totally crazy.  Why is it that when I have just packed and sealed a teddy bear, all ready for shipping, I suddenly started to panic that I have left a pin of two in the teddy body, or maybe have forgotten to sew on the ears?!

I hope Banji’s new mom doesn’t discover an ear-less, needle-pinned teddy when she arrives.  I love Banji...  she has the sweet, baby-like and innocent kind of face, that I want all my teddies have.

Winter Colors

This cutie spent the long summer days with me in my studio.  My son called him sweet but boring.  Normally I feel quiet comfortable with 'boring' but I thought I'll give this little one a bit of a color lift in the form of an oversized hat. With winter coming and everything, he will need it.
Fuzzle is a 3.5 inch sweetie-pie and he now has the approval of a certain teenager.

Two new Babies

Two new babies ...  Addi and Banji.

They are soft and cuddly and cute... but somehow I can't seem to capture those features with these photos,  will certainly have to work on my poor photographic skills.

These twins are  both 6" little bears, created from a beaturiful sparse mohair.

Addi and Banji's names were specially chosen for their meanings. Addi, which has French origins, mean 'beginnings' and Banji which is an old African name, means 'second born of twins'.

A Cute New Face

Hi Everyone

Finally a new bear from AutumnWood studio!  Her name is Nalo.

I wanted a name that was special and a bit different for this little bear.  'Nalo' is an African name meaning ‘Loveable’.  She is a sweet little bear, cuddly soft and loveable.   I think the name 'Nalo' suits her perfectly.

Nalo is made from  a creamy Tissavel Faux fur, her paw pads and inside of her ears are wool felt.  She is approximately 6” standing.

This is the first time I use faux fur for any of my bears and I rather like the look and feel of this tiny one.  Maybe I should create little faux fur brothers and sisters for Nalo?

Nalo is currently available for adoption.  Nalo has been adopted is on her way to her new mommy in the UK.

Nothing Good Happened after Midnight

I have a sign in my studio saying  “Studio Time: 11pm to 2pm”,    This is my favourite  time to sew my bears, the house is peaceful and my mind is quiet.

Last night I finished an itty-bitty little elephant with droopy ears and a baby face, sooo sweet …. I think I’m in love and will keep him.

Just before 1:45am, I let the dogs out one last time. Our Jack Russell always does her 'border patrol' before she comes in and Lucy, my Shih-Poo, just plays 'follow the leader'.  Then suddenly there was a short bark followed by yowling. The next moment Jackie was at the backdoor and I could immediately see something was seriously wrong by the way she was scratching her eyes. I quickly let her in, and she plowed her face into the rugs, her bed, anything she could find. I opened the door for Lucy  and wondered at the smell outside, probably people burning  garbage or so I thought. How I came to that conclusion, I honestly don’t know, it was past midnight!
The next moment my teenage son shouted from his room  'It smells like skunk!!'  It took me a few moments to realize what he was saying, (seriously,  some people are just slow to grasp!  meaning me!)  Then the realization, and the smell hit me, ….that smell was in the house!
By this time everyone was awake, and probably the whole neighborhood as well.  It was a crazy commotion to get Jackie outside, we bathed her eyes, mouth, and nose, trying to get the acid out of her face.  Poor thing, she looked terrible, she was in agony and in such a desperate need for help.

We went looking for the skunk,  and we found him, happily at home in the back of the yard next to the swimming pool.  He was the cutest little thing,  so tiny, probably still in kindergarten and on his first excursion without mom. But he had a ferocious temper and the body language to go with it.  So funny!
We wanted him to return  to the forest down the street from us, where he probably came from, but he had no intention to leave his new found home.  So, hubby gently persuaded him, with the help of the garden hose, to find other pastures.

We washed rugs, dog beds, soft toys, everything that Jackie came into contact with. It was now way past 3am.
That smell is indescribable.  I have never, ever smelled anything as pungent as this odor, it smells like burning sulfuric acid.  I grew up in Africa, saw a few skunks in my lifetime, but have never had a full encounter with any of them.  But I suppose we are lucky it was just a baby, imagine it was a big, fat daddy skunk!
We washed and washed, we sprayed, we powdered, but even with all the windows open day and night,  the smell is here to stay for a while.

Sweet Expression Girly Bears

I just love the little girly bears with their sweet expressions !

The heat wave we are currently experiencing here in Southern Ontario had me hiding indoors the last few days.  I used the time to create a new little girly bear.  Her name is Joni, she is 6" standing and is created from soft peachy colored mohair.

Sophie, a Perfect Name for Her.

Today I spent the day planting annuals,  I know it is a bit late in June already, but I just couldn't resist the temptation at the nursery,  just had to have them.

I have  listed a sweet blue-grey bear on the 'Available' page.  She is made from the softest long pile mohair and is only 6" from head to toe.   I always wanted to name a bear Sophie, and I think the name suits her perfectly.

Inspirational Quote for the Day - Pooh Bear Wisdom

Just because an animal is large, it doesn't mean he doesn't want kindness; however big Tigger seems to be, remember that he wants as much kindness as Roo.

Taking Photos of Shy Girly Bears

Dotty visited the photographer again today...

She is just not photogenic, my shy little girly bear.

Skippy is the tiniest of bears ever born in the AutumnWood studio, and yet, he took forever to finish.  He has been peeking at me from his little corner on my work table, arm- and legless, poor little thing.  But finaly  I manage to put it all together this week and he is a real sweetie pie.

Skippy is a 3.5” mohair bear, he is 5 way jointed, filled with polyfil and a wee bit of steel shot fill his tiny tummy.

The Wisdom of Pooh Bear

When my son was little, I used to read him all the Pooh bear books.  We probably have every single book ever published about Pooh bear, big ones, small ones, some with music, and others with pop-up's...  I just love Pooh and his wisdom.

Today's Inspirational Quote I find especially true....  if only I can remember it on the days when nothing goes according to plan...

Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.

Puppies in Springtime

It seems Spring has finally arrived here in Southwestern Canada.  Today is such a glorious day and even though there is still some snow on the ground here and there, I already envision flower beds full of radiant color.  I can’t wait to start planting!

This is my little princess, Lucy.  She is a Shi-poo and my constant companion.  I just love her to bits, and use her sweet little face as inspiration for all my bears.  But ….it turned out this little princess loves not only me but the outdoors as well.  Her favorite past time is rolling in mud puddles and slurping up rain worms whenever she gets the chance.  So much for being a princess…
After a hard day's work...

Milo, a Mischievous little Bear Cub

It has been busy here at the AutumnWood studio the last couple of weeks.  I am working on four new bears for the Teddies Worldwide show, which will take place  March 23 - 25, 2012, as well as on some equine drawings for an art exhibition in Kamloops.

Amongst all this craziness, a new bear cub was born,  he is a real cutie-pie.  He is sitting on my work table at the moment, sharing with me what he plans to do when he is a fully grown grizzly bear.

But ...

Unfortunately for tiny 5" Milo, he will have to spend his life  in a closed container until his adoption.  Panini, our official studio assistant, is always on the lookout for cute little mohair critters to prey on ...life can be dangerous for a grizzly cub.

Milo is available for adoption at http://autumnwoodbears.bearpile.com/

Milo has been adopted by a wonderful collector in the US
